Subject: moving to Khartoum

Posted by: pedroyjamie

Hello,
My wife and I will move to Khartoum in August and we would like to get as many tips as the readers can give us. We would also like to start building friendships with locals and other expats.
Thanks!

Hi,
what exaclty do you want to know?
Concerning meeting people you can join once you are there one of the clubs (German club, Greek club ecc) or use websites like www.hospitalityclub.org or www.couchsurfing.com
You will be able to meet locals and expats,
chus,
Karl

It's also worth getting involved with the British Council, French Cultural Institute, and Goethe Institut (German) - these all organise events from time to time, which can be a good way of meeting people. But, as the previous poster mentioned, couch surfing and hospitality club are a good way to start building your network of people over there.

In terms of meeting the locals, you'll find local Sudanese very friendly, and they are always really keen to meet foreigners - before long you'll be invited to social occasions just about every evening.

Blake
